Sindh Flash Floods Response – Emergency Food Distribution

The most underdeveloped areas of the Sindh including Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Tharparkar and Badin are yet again facing the a calamity. According to Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA-Sindh)’s latest report a total of 331 mm of downpour has been recorded in these areas until 8 am on 25th August 2020.

This huge rainfall had left these areas inundated and people helpless under the open skies. The residents have not only lost roofs on their heads but also left with no supplies of food. The family of one Alahdino from Umerkot is one such families. Let’s go through his unfortunate story:

“I have two sons and four daughters. My eldest son works as a labor in Hyderabad. It is the fourth month that he cannot find any work over there. I along with my wife grow some vegetables. That is how we earn our living. When the rain started early on Monday we were happy that our vegetables would grow. But the rain never stopped for next whole day. Eventually, now we do not have anyplace to live. Vegetable crop is destroyed. The flour and pulses got wet too. Everything we had is gone. I am afraid that my family have to starve now…”

There are many like Allahdino waiting for the relief from the generous and blessed brethren under the life-threatening circusmtances. If not provided with immediate support, these people are likely to consumed by hunger, diarrhea and other fatal diseases. Fortunately Shifa Foundation already has ground presence in seven districts of interior Sindh including Badin, Khairpur, Matiari, Thar, Sangarh, Sajawal and Umerkot. Our field staff has immediately traced and confirmed at least 4,000 affected people who are in dire need of food supplies. Please donate generously so save lives.
